Can you clean a catalytic converter?!
I have to get emissions tomorrow. I currently have a 3 day trip permit on my car so that I can get emissions done. But now I think that I might need a new catalytic converter.
(I just swapped in a new motor but I never drained the gas tank. And it was OLD old old gas. So we filled the tank with premium, started the car and now its running.) I need to get emissions done ASAP, but my CEL just came on with a code 64 {Catalytic Converter Efficiency Failure}
Could it be from bad gas gumming up the converter? Or some other factor... Do I need a new one converter? or can I clean it somehow?

Can't clean it. Unless your owner's manual (or the stickers that came with the Mopar PCM) calls for premium, just use regular unleaded.
Whenever I had emissions testing due on my old Trooper, I'd go to Autozone and get a bottle of stuff called "Emissions Test Passer". After failing once without it, I went for 3 years passing with flying colors.
A new aftermarket cat should run under $100, and a shop can cut the old one out and weld the new one in for maybe $50 under the table (no warranty). A by-the-book job will probably run you closer to $300.
Best of luck!

Wow! The gas seemed to be the problem. I drove it down to 1/4 tank, and filled up! Went to emissions and they asked me if I had put in a new motor because the emissions were so clean! Thanks for the help guys!
