Timing

RE: Timing
i dont have a pic to send you but there is a little notch on the cam gear. if you look straight at the gear the notch will be on the thin outside lip by the gear teeth. just a little notch, more like a cut un the edge. the mark on the block should be an arrow on the top or side. if i can find a pic then i will post it later today.

RE: Timing
one way to check if you have bent valves is to romove the cam, and put air to all the cylinders using a compressor. the cam can be removed form the car with the head in place.
Remove the rocker assembly, the crank sensor, battery box, cpm, and of course the cam sprocket and carefully slide the cam out of the head. Now all your valves should be closed.
remove all the plugs and use a compresion gage screw in adapter to put each cylinder under presure listen for leaks could be either out of the intake or exaust. Of course after reading this i see all you need to do is remove the valve train and check for comp.
hell i had to take my cam out you dont sorry to be so long winded.
I did this to check for leaks after my cam key pin sheared to make sure the valves were good.
Of course its alot of work but i got it done in 4 hours including tear down and assemble so it aint hard just seems that way after all you've done so far.
I think you have bent some of the valves at the speed you were going its pretty unlikly that you didnt.
You say your neihbor checked for comp? how can this be done if the timing is off?
Just letting you know what i would do and have done.
Just start wrenching and see
Good luck!
