Default Help

I got some question. My friend bringed his 95 neon up to the car club. And he has a 2.0 SOHC and he put tons of DOHC and built head he said on it. That bitch is fast. So my motor went up in my eclipse yesterday . Im saving up a 2 door Dodge Neon 5 speed SOHC. What kinda DOHC parts can u put on the Neon to give it more peroformance. He also said soemthin about a 60 mm throttle body he changed or something off a automatic. Help plz really interstead in these 2.0 SOHC never knew they was this fast.

Throttle body, wich is probably the same as the SOHC, suspension will work, header, simple **** really. Heres what I would do to get power out of the Neon easy.

The muffler is the most restrictive sob on that car. Take it off you get instant power until you can get a true exhaust. Removing the muffler might give you 4 considering the size of the stock exhaust is about right for the Neon.

CAI, especially the Iceman, wich is dyno proven to be the best for the Neon. Good for about 3-6 more hp.

The cheapest, and freest one of them all, remove the weather stripping. This will give you about 1 hp because of a cooler engine bay.

The ATX TB is 54mm if I remember right. The 60 is gonna be an aftermarket honing, you really don't need it though unless you are pushing some serious HP.

Stock ATX TB is 52mm, stock MTX is 49mm. Doesn't matter if it's SOHC or DOHC, it's the same part, just different sensors.

The only parts from a DOHC that will make a significant difference on the SOHC is the head (and the included extra cam), and you'll need the pistons to keep compression up if you're staying n/a, so really an engine swap is easier. And since 2.4L DOHC's are so much easier to find now, might as well get the extra displacement with that extra cam, along with the non-interference design...

If you put stock DOHC pistons (need a little work to avoid breaking off the ring lands) in a stock SOHC, you'll up the compression ratio to about 10.3:1, but with the stock cam you're really going to be putting a strain on the engine, and the relatively small amount of power isn't going to be worth it without a bigger cam (and better valvesprings).

The blocks are identical. The exhaust system is identical except for the muffler, and a good straight-through aftermarket unit is tons better than either stock one. The intake and exhaust manifolds will not swap. The TB's are identical, as mentioned. CAI's for both are identical. Underdrive pulleys are identical.

The computers are different - a stock DOHC computer will run much richer on a SOHC (less power), but will raise the rev limiter, not that you could make much use of it with the stock SOHC cam... Even the Mopar DOHC unit isn't a great choice compared to a Mopar SOHC PCM unless you have some sort of fuel control and a better cam.

One thing that is hard to find on SOHC's is the 3.94 final drive tranny (only on ACR sedans). I pulled mine from a DOHC Expresso so I have the best of both worlds - tighter gear ratios and the taller 5th gear (for highway gas mileage). All R/T's and ACR's have the 3.94 tranny with the shorter 5th gear.

Best of luck!
