still dont believe me???
About the only way somebody is going to make a neon jump up 60+ Hp is to drop a turbo on it... then it would be in the range he is talking about Hp wise. SportCompactCar mag is doing a SOHC project car that they changed out all kinds of **** on, headers, ignition, underdrive, adjustable timing gear, exhaust, bigger throttle body and some other stuff and it only gained about 25-30 Hp overall. Now thats a pretty good gain, but not only did they add the best stuff but they have a more unlimited budget and a staff of goonies to install and test the various items. I realize that the DOHC has more HP to start with but the HP gains from the adds are still going to about the same, maybe a point or 2 higher each, but not enough to equal out to 60+ HP.
And yep I totally agree, a "fast car" is all relative to what you have driven in the past. I have driven the WRX Si, the EVO VIII, the SRT4, at least a 100 Vipers, Porsches, Vettes, Ferrari, a Lambo or 2, NSX, 1 bad-*** Omni GLHS(that bitch was scary fast!!!) and a bunch of different older serious muscle cars. I own a Buick Grand National, my Hemi p/u, my 70 Cougar(no slouch there either, just dont try to stop fast!) and my 1996 Neon SOHC. And no matter what anybody says, nor how much crap I may add to it, my neon will never be a "fast" car in my book unless I'm dropping serious money and mods into it(and the purpose would be what?).

spudsterier, I think that more has been done to your car than you think. Is there a way that you could check the engine block? It's possible that the previous owner dropped a larger engine in there. That would explain the big performance increases that we're seeing here. I'm not trying to bash you. If that dyno run is for real, then there HAS to be an explanation as to how it's happening. Perhaps the previous owner had the top speed limiter removed. That does look like the stock PCM casing, but it could still be aftermarket.
I really do think that more is going on here than you're aware of and both you and some of the other guys in this thread have to understand that. If you've ever got your headers off or you can find a way to get a camera in there, I'd like to see the engine block, and the inside of the PCM. You don't need to prove yourself to me, I can pretty much guarantee that more has been done to the engine than you're listing, it's just a matter of finding out what else is in there.
It's been a while since I've driven a 1st gen neon, but can someone enlighten me as to why he's got 2 intake filters towards the back of the engine bay? I recall there only being one.

that little filter is probly for crankcase ventilation... could have removed the EGR valve, a common performance mod. The main filter looks to be either dirty or kinda beat up judging by the element, and I dont think anybody dropped a bigger motor in it...
i agree with whyte69, but i do realize that there has to be more going on here....I DONT KNOW IF THERE ARE INTERNALS but no one seems to grasp the fact that i dont know. i have said this numerous times before but instead of people considering this it always goes to the fact that i must be lying...it doesnt have a bigger motor, but there could be cams, better pistons, different compression, or anything inside that was done before i got it...what i have listed on here is what i have done to it.....i dont see why it is so hard for some people to gather this...but i am not planning on taking it apart any time soon, and it doesnt have a header, but if i do take it apart i will get some pics....the driver would have alot to do with it too...the first time a got a manual i spent a month in the contry practicing my launches...and there is alot more that i would do as a driver that others wont consider....the small filter is the crankcase ventilation, the cold air intake that is on the car came from a sohc and the vent tube that comes off of it to feed the valve cover was a different size so i blocked off the outlet on the intake and got the little filter... the main filter is very beat up...with the car being a dohc that filter is kinda hard to fit back there, and i broke a bearing in the inner drivers sidecv joint one time and the grease got all over the filter, so i cleaned it over and over, now it is just a grease color...the only thing i have had apart on the car was the drivers side suspension about two monthes ago, it needed a new driveshaft, spindle, controll arm, strut mount, tie rod, and it still needs a new steering rack....other wise the motor has never been apart since i have had it...

Just to let you know that most people that accuse a person of being "gay" the accuser is the "gay" one!! Oh and as for the hole big wheel thing I'm sure any of my vehicles would put the smack down on that piece of S*@T road runner(one of the ugliest so called muscle cars around) and the SRT4(not that I dont love the SRT4 because i do love it its an awsome car )!!!!!
Hey, it is possible ... my Neon is a new car for me, it's a 95 with no mods whatsoever. I took it to a track to see what it would do and got it up to 109, and that's with no mods at all, so hey ...
well its nice to know that not every one on this site is closminded like a few of the people that have responded to this...and besides like most people dont seem to understand, the car has alot to do with all of this but the main factor is the driver....i have seen a stock 4 cylinder beat v8 mustangs with no problem because the kid with the mustang had it set in his mind that if he spins the tires for a few seconds on the launch that he could get an extra boost off the line...and if you are on a road race and a car is a ways infront of you and you hit a turn, you can gain on him from around the curve if you only hit the brakes a second closer to the curve then he did. and accelerate just before the apex of the curve.....it just goes to show that there are many factors in a road race that could easily affect the outcome....but people like roadrunner would understand that because he is too close minded
yeah well i dont care...you are just pointless and a waste of space..but please keep writing on here, maybe this will get to four pages, but if im a moron then maybe you should leave a reply about whats goin on, maybe sumthing that matters...instead of popping on here to call me a moron...atleast roadrunner and the others make it fun to reply too, but you are just a closeminded as they are...i wish some open minded people would reply to this...maybe you should speak you mind about it instead of just goin with what people think...if you arent goin to reply to the messages then dont reply..
