Auto to 5 speed swap
I recently did the swap myself and the toughest part I could say was the pedals for sure. Otherwise it was alright. I have a 95 neon and I bought a 96 tranny. So the connectors were different. I hadn't realized this till the tranny was in so, soldiering the connector underneath for the speedometer wiring was tricky, but do able. The other part which you might not think about it the neutral safety switch on the automatic. It needs to be in neutral or park to start, and with the manual, theres no connector for that so it thinks its always in gear and wont start.
There is a two wire combo for back up lights, the speedometer combo which has 3 wires, near the back of tranny and there another 3 wire combo at the front of the tranny for the neutral safety switch. You have to tap two wires together and I cant exactly remember which one. Its the middle one with one of the outside ones. You could just guess and check to see if it turns over the motor. Becuase if you dont do this, it wont turn over.
Otherwise should be smooth sailing. Good luck!

oh yeah i forgot about that. when i put the auto in my car i needed to get the plugs and figure out a wire pattern for the torque converter clutch and the neutral start switch....but it will be opposite for you...i forgot which wires it was but like he said the middle and one of the outer ones, just not the black one, thats the ground
I'm new to this forum but I'm going to be doing a swap at the end of april. I'll keep you all posted on how things go. Here's a list of parts needed from neons.org
HAVE (1) Transmission
HAVE (1) Vehicle speed sensor appropriate for your year (rear of tranny)
HAVE (1) Left transaxle mount, AKA engine mount (in strut tower area on drivers side)
HAVE (1) Shifter cable bracket
upper mounting bracket, and bushing
HAVE (1) Clutch (recommend a new clutch) a modular clutch is easier
1 new throw out bearing
HAVE (1) Drive axle tranny side
HAVE (1) entire clutch/brake pedal assembly. including any switches or sensors
1 clutch pedal stop (grey plastic thing) at the end of the cable attached to the pedal
HAVE (1) Shifter assembly (with **** and boot)
HAVE (1) Shifter linkage cables
HAVE (1) Clutch pedal position switch
HAVE (1) Clutch cable
HAVE (2) Shift cable retaining clips
HAVE (2) Shift cable retaining clips (for the other end)
HAVE (1) The longer of the two engine to transmission brackets
HAVE (1) K member from a MTX neon. recommended over welding a bracket on the auto kmeber(its easier)
HAVE (1) Plug for the reverse light switch on the tranny with the pigtail of wiring (front of tranny)
HAVE (1) Bobble strut (recommend aftermarket hard bobble strut)
HAVE 1 computer from a manual car for your year car..aka ecm, pcm, ecu
car will work with the auto but the rev limit will be pretty low @ 55k or so and you will have the check engine light
2.5 quarts of tranny fluid (that's 2 and a half bottles only use mopar fluid)
new cotter pins
high pressure high temp grease
some extra wire for the reverse light plug. and the clutch pedal switch
Disregard the word "Have" just put that in to keep track.
