Default Synthetic oil

Pros. Cons.

Is it worth it to pay for more for this oil?

If you plan on keeping your car for more than a short time, yes.....

As long as your engine doesn't leak any oil or burn any, then synthetic is the best. It will reduce wear and it will increase power, fuel mileage and engine life. If you do have any oil leaks or if it burns any oil, then don't switch to synthetic as it will only make it worse.

i look at it this way.... no matter wat oil gets put in the car its still going to to get dirty and thicken by the first 200 miles....due to going from hot to cold then from cold to hot in a short period of time..if i put new oil in my car drive 30 miles to a buddys house spend the night in cold conditions then come back to my house. and change the oil it will be black and thick.

wat i do is i run castro syntec with lucas stableizer

dunno what your problem is... I've changed the oil in my neon and 1000 miles later is still nice and golden brown. if your leaking fuel into your oil (rings, valve problems) that will thin it. Oil has a viscosity raiting 5w30 means that in cold temps it will be 30 and hot temps it will be 5. 10w40 same 10 hot 40 cold. synthetics help to reduce the breakdown that dino oil has synthetics will last longer because they resist breaking down better than dino oil. I've seen people put stabalizers, engine leak fixers and whatnot in there motor. One that we pulled a part that the guy put an engine leak fixer in the oil just looked like glue.

I run dino oil cuz its cheap. Dont go and buy synthetic and change your oil every 3k miles its a waste of money. And dont buy a brand spankin new car or engine and try to "break in" the motor with synthetic because it dosent allow the parts to wear enough for breakin.

bottem line. if you can afford it buy synthetic and change every 5-7k miles or just do what people have for almost 100 years and run dino oil and change it 3-7k miles.

You've got that backwards, the first number is the oils weight/viscosity when cold and the second number is when it's hot or at operating temperature. This is the whole point to the creation of multi-viscosity oils using polymers, to maximize it's flow in cold weather by giving it a lower viscosity to allow it to flow easier, yet retain it's higher viscosity when the engine gets to operating temperatures.
