How to time DOHC motor?
Hey everyone,
Me again!
i have a dohc motor and on my two cam gears there are two marks on each sprocket. Do i have to just make a straight line across them or do the lobes of the cams need to be a certain way on each cam? A few mechanics told me to just line them up but its deffinatly outta time like that. So i was wondering if it would be easier to just look at the lobes of the cam and set each one a certain way. Any help would be greatful.

the cam lines need to be across from eachother..intake at 9:00 and exhaust at 3:00.....do you have the crank figured out???

if you just line up the crank arrows then you are going to have a huge problem when you put it back together...it wont start right and will run like crap(when it does)....you need to remove the #1 sparkplug, stick a small dollrod or sumthing equivelent down the whole and onto the piston..then rotate the crank until the rod lifts up as high as it can...that will bring you to top dead center...then lighn up the arrow from there, it should be close by then...then MOVE THE CRANK COUNTERCLOCKWISE 1 TOOTH, NO MORE..because when you put the tensioner on it will move the crank about to where it needs to be

slap the belt on to pull the arrows in line. And that should be it correct?

yeah, the cams wont move when you put the belt on and the crank should pull to about right where it needs to go, but you dont need to worry about it if it doesnt lign up exactly, unless its like 1 tooth off
