If you will go to www.neons.org and then look at the left side of the screen under the box "Neon Things" and you will see TSB's for 95-99 neons. Click on this. Then click on your year model neon. Look at the top of the list that pops up and you will see "suspension".
Click on it. You will be amazed at how many TSB's there are concerning suspension noise, dry and wet, and harsh ride. It gives the TSB bulletin #'s and a revised edition of the fix. After you have this info, you can go to dodge.com and then click on customer services to see if there a recall or not.
This may be old news, but I have found alot of very useful information on the neons.org web site. Hope it helps.

Checked the motor/tranny mounts? Do you have bump stops on the struts? Everything tightened down properly on the strut assembly? Sway bar(s) attached properly? Front and rear?

I have the same problem also.

Kind of sounds like a knocking sound whenever you run over a bump or pothole. The sound is coming from the back of the car.

I dont know if you have checked, may seem a bit silly, but I had a 92 Camaro before my neon now, and I had about the same sound in that. Come to find out one day while doing my brakes and rotors that I had a busted swaybar link. You might want to check your swaybars on both your front and back suspension.. I replaced mine and it went away, on the Camaro that is..

Sounds like you need new struts.

I have the same problem. A lot of noise comming from front end, mostly passanger side. The noise drops down to a bare minimum when I slightly ride the brakes when going over any bumps in the road. But without brake pressure applied, it is nerve racking, the bumping, banging noise.

I replaced strut inserts, strut mounts, got under the car and nutted every single bolt I could find, to be sure I wasnt missing something, then took the car to a repair shop, they checked bushings and struts as well as alignment, nothing was bad.

I then checked thebrakes.

One thing I did notice is that the brake caliper floats on the rotor with quite a bit of play, but I cant see any possible fix for stopping this play in the caliper, as brakes are good and all hardware is in place and in working order.

Maybe a design flaw from factory?

Any ideas on how to resolve this annoyance of suspension noise?
