hey guys, i've been workin on cars for a long time, & ran accross something really strange yesterday. a buddy of mine blew up his brand new engine in 2.5 min.

we were tearing it down to find out why & found about 1qt of oil sitting in his intake mani.. & we're clueless as to how the hell it got there.. the car never even sat on all 4 wheels yet.. fresh start & blew up in 2.5min.

anyone have an idea what the hell happened here..

brand new block assembled from dodge & we had the head check at the machine shop prior to assembly.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

PCV system routed correctly? That's the only way I can figure oil getting into the intake mani. Still, a quart?...

 

yea.. durring disassembly, we pulled the throttle body off while engine was on the stand & i saw my reflection looking down into the intake mani.

it was filled with oil! had to be at least a quart.

it had to have gotten sucked in somehow but i don't have any clue where from... it's just really odd!

 

Thats really odd. Did you forget to put a piston in?

 

lol.. naa dodge sent us a complete bottom end, preassembled.

anyways, they have agreed to warrenty the short block & i need to figure this out so that something stupid like this doesn't hapenen again.

any info from people would be greatly appreciated. Or even some better place to look if nobody here has an answer..

There is really no way to get oil in the manifold unless its through the PVC system and thats a lot of oil.

 

i had that much oil in mine after my head gasket blew last time granted it was on a motor with 70-80000 miles on it not a new one by any means but nonetheless i've had it happen to my SOHC

 

i'll have to post the pix up here. I took a pick with the throttle body off that shows the amount of oil thats in there.

booboo.. how did your blown head gasket cause there to be oil in the intake mani?
