Neither stock suspension is any good. You are gonna want a stiffer, lower aftermarket suspension if you are serious about the car.

The 1st gen springs are about 1.5" shorter at ride height. The strut travel is matched to the springs. 1st gens have a little under 3" of travel, 2nd gens a little under 4". The clevis brackets are 1/4" wider or so on the 2nd gens. The spring rates are the same (except ACR fronts for both gens). The Base/ES and R/T struts were valved a little stiffer than the Highline/SXT/SE. The rates didn't change much between generations.

For a stock setup, I'd take the 1st gen ACR setup. But barely... A 2nd gen ACR setup with 1st gen springs would be better. But if I went with a 2nd gen setup, I'd have to own a 2nd gen, and I ain't gonna...

Best of luck!
