The A670 tranny in the neon is extermely reliable if taken care of properly. I know people with over 200,000 miles on their original tranny with no major problems. Just do the filter and fluid change every 30,000 miles with Mopar ATF+4 and you should be good.

The trans is a great trans. Your not gonna get that much torque out of a neon to begin with. If you want a crisper, quicker shift build the ATX and get a valve body.

Investing in a tranny cooler will greatly extend the reliability of the transmission. A shift kit will make for firmer shifts, more uncomfortable maybe, but as it stops gear overlapping it is also better for the tranny, and keeps it cooler too. Less heat the better.

And NO Dexron or Mercron!!! Only ATF+4 like das2123 said.

Have the bands adjusted once in a while by a shop too, look in the manual for the recommended intervals.

WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT NEUTRAL DROP IT! i knew it was bad but i didnt think it was bad enough to go out in 3 neutral drops, (i had a geo tracker that loved neutral drops and never had a problem) i payed the price, and had to have it rebuilt for $1200.
