12 crane cam ????'s
the #12 crane cam installed on a ported and polished head. my question is this...
does it need new springs and retainers or is it ok for a little while to run with stock ones???
this is for a 95 sohc btw.

cool, thanks casper. i really was not sure, but i was willing to take the chance. head will be done tomorrow and i should be into the 14's!
The only cam that doesn't recommend/require upgraded springs is the Zex/Comp Cams 200 grind. Mopar even recommends upgraded springs for the 4HP cam, which is the stock '95 cam... Not surprising, since my valves start floating not much higher than 7200 rpm ('95 SOHC). Titanium retainers are never required. When Jeff B was still SOHC and running the Crane #004 (think bigger than the 0014, and there is a 005...) at 8000 rpm, it was with stock retainers.
Stock Magnum springs have shown to be more reliable than the Cranes. Cheaper too.
Best of luck!
