SOHC rebuild
hello im currently goin through the bottom end in my SOHC as i spun a bearing a while back and have decided to rebuild this one to have ready to drop in when the 150 motor i have in my neon lets go since it has low compression but to the point i was wondering if anyone could link me to information that would tell me the tolerences on the crank and block and what the actual bore and stroke of the motor is im searched throughout the forrum to no avail any help would be appreciated
i guess i'll try to restate this im tryin to find out how worn my crank can be before i have to getg a new one really neeed the pecs since i spun a rod bearing would like to know if i can just make up the difference with bearings or not also would like to know what the bore and taper are on the block i believe the bore is 87.5mm and the stoke is around 80mm thats the only info i've been able to find
If you spun a bearing - I would recommend having your Crank Machined. My personal experience from spun bearings is to machine or replace the Crank. When a bearing goes out - chances are it damaged the Crank. Its a lot of work to pull the engine to rebuild it. might as well as make it worth your while. I notice the local parts store have re-manufactured cranks and they come with Bearings for the rods and journals. usely machined 10 over on the Rods and 20 over on the Journals.
I spun a bearing and rebuilt the bottom end by replacing all the bearings - it drove good for about 400 miles - but once I put my car back on the race track - I did not make 1 full lap before I spun another bearing - the exact same piston.
Just my opinion.

thanks NYG i dont plan on doin anythin wild with mine but driving to and from work i have a 300zx to take care of my need for speed the crank is really clean but i'm still goin to at least have it polished if it'll spec out but my major corcern was with the mains in the block/webbing as i def dont want to have it line bored since no main bearings were spun i was wondering how many .001's i can have oonce i plastigauge it i only spun 2 rod bearings and no mains or thrust bearings thank god also if you mite know can i get oversized rings for the pistons or am igonna have to go ahead and bore it out to .020 over to make up for the lite cleaning that needs to be done on the cylinder walls oh yeah the crank and bearings u've seen on the self what are they goin for i've priced through a few online retailers and it was 300-500 for the bottom end if its not stock specs but modernperformance has main bearings for 40 and rod bearings for 30 and then rings for 80 in stock form if i read it correctly
