99 Neon SOHC problems
Really having some bad luck with this car lately... Six months ago, had to replace thermostat, coolant temp sensor and flush radiator for an intermittent overheating problem...Now that it is nearing 100 degrees in our area, with the A/C running, car will overheat. As soon as the A/C is turned off, though, car would return to normal temp. Electric Fans and such are all working as they should...Shop said radiator was plugged. Replaced radiator and now that problem is fixed....Now this week a new problem developed. Was driving down the road, A/C on, and noticed A/C blowing warm, no gauges, no radio, no nothing...Hit the gas and nothing. The car had stopped dead. One second later, car started back up on its own and everything back to normal....Prior to this happening, the check engine light was on, but I had been ignoring it for a while, because the code is for a P/S pressure switch....After this incident, CEL is off now...I have no idea but this car should not be in this shape for only 70,000 miles on it....Other problems....all motor/trans mounts broken, leaks oil like crazy and I've been told head gasket is starting to leak oil, cruise control just stopped working recently, horn doesn't work....i dont know...anyone have any ideas as to why the car would just die like that? Car was tuned up within the last year, which included plugs and wires. Starter, Battery and cables were also replaced within the last 6 mos. Any input would be appreciated.
Motor mounts have been an issue according to this and another forum so not much I can say other than it is what it is. Maybe time to replace with new one and add inserts. Head gasket just about the same deal just a known issue replace with new MLS gasket and go be happy. As far as all you stuf turning off sounds as if you have an electrical short. Cause unknown at this time. But that would be a main reason why everything dies then comes back if you have a short that is temporarily groundingout. As far as the AC if the battery grounded out you just may not have had enough juice to pull the clutch tight to allow the AC compressor to work. i fyou noticed the problems after turning on the ac I would start with that circuit. Also check the Power steering circuit as you have a known issue there as well. Also look for frayed pinched wires from when the vehicle had its work don in the past. Best of luck.
