Cant figure out whats wrong!!!!!
I just got a new transmission put in and my car ran great for a few days...then it just sounded like it misfired and wouldnt take gas, started shaking really bad and got louder.....I have put 2 coil packs on it and something keeps melting and cracking them.....what all could be wrong??????
Would almost want to see that car on scope to check out spark lines. See if you can see something that way. Check you wiring tot he coil, install new plugs and wires and obviously a new coil again. make sure not to overtighten it as that may be cracking it then failure is imminent.
Then scope it. Sounds as if something is shorting to ground burning it up.

did you do the trans or have it done at a shop? sound like the coil pack don't have a good ground to get rid of the extra voltage at lower rpm's and is getting soaked up by the heat sink (most times present in high voltage applications like ignition systems, oil bath or grease) and over heating the coil pack. if you had a shop do the trans swap take the car back and scream bloody murder. say you'll write the local paper, call the local TV, ECT.
how did the trans get replaced? i left the engine in my '96. did the engine get pulled or just the trans? this might help you limit your serch if it was a DIY job. check for ground straps from the eng to the frame. good luck.
