Default 97 Acceleration? Didnt know I had any!

Im going on 130K in my 97 sohc, auto. tranny I know im not going to get great acceleration. but I had it up to like 118K.. then it just all went away.. have done plugs/filers and regular oil change.. changed the pcv valve. but still no imporvement.. I was lookin to redo some of the electrical system get a stronger coil and some bigger wires to get me some more spark but I dont think it would do to much.. hopefully!.. but im really looking for additional things I could do to get some of my power back!!

does belts, belt tensioner really do much for ur acceleration?..

Was thinking about getting some headers and upping my pipe size maybe 1/4 inch or so.. Any chips I should be able to pick up for cheap to regulate some more air flow and fuel mixture?

thanks for all the help greatly appreciated!
Shawn

You can put on a UPD to help acceleration. There is no "chip" for the neon and stay away from Jet. You have 2.25" ehaust piping from the factory whick flows well, but you do have a restrictive muffler on there. A cheap upgrade is to put on a muffler from a DOHC neon...it flows much better. Since you are at 130k miles, did you have your timing belt, water pump, and tensioner pulley replaced?

Is it a manual or auto trans? If it is manual, check for clutch slippage, especially with 137k on it. If it an auto, check fluid levels for starters. Then maybe consider a servicing it with new filter and fluid.
Either one of these problems can make the car feel as though it doesn't have any acceleration. Just a thought!
