Free flow muffler, cheapest, most quiet,
added Horsepower.
Hi my 1998 Neon still has the original restrictive muffler. I want a high performance one but want it to be as quiet as possible and least expensive. What would guys recommend?
Thanks
Frank

The stock DOHC muffler is still restrictive. A straight-through muffler like the Hooker Max Flow or Dynomax UltraFlow will free up more HP, but there's the noise issue...
In addition to an aftermarket muffler, you could try running a long (42"?) Thrush Magnum glasspack in the long channel under the car (it's been done before), or even a Moroso Spiral Flow muffler will fit, although they have been known to fall apart internally...
Best of luck!

Mopar RT muffler is just about dead quiet unless you are at an ATM or other drive thru and rev it up pretty good and let is settle back down. Then you hear it from the dirvers seat. Other than that, Dead quiet.
Your best bet is probably the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler which is only around $40 and will perform as well as just about any performance muffler out there for the Neon.
