yet another won't start
I've just finished replacing the head gasket on my daughters '97 Neon.(Don't ask me why there's a motor mount going timing belt cover.err) Turns over fine, no spark or fuel past the injectors. Tried the 3 key turn trick & the codes that come up ar 12 & 55. As I understand it error code 12 is "Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles". I did disconect the battery before changing the head gasket. Am I missing something?
Sounds like me and you are in the Same Boat!
I just rebuilt my spare engine from the ground up - I am not getting any spark on my 2nd engine - however I have no codes at all.
what is a code 55?
I figured out my issue on my Neon - the Crank Sensor check ok on the scanner with Voltage and everything - as soon as I swapped it out - my Neon Fired right over.
Now I have to figure out a tapping noise from the back of the Engine!! Checked my Valves - they check out OK from the top side. the funny thing is - it actually sounds like the tapping noise is coming from my EGR - but I have never hard a EGR make a loud tapping noise.
Anything new on your Daughters Neon?

With no spark you may not get fuel. Try and diagnos a no spark condition. Check you crank and cam sensors for output and conection. Check your fuses obviously and then se where your at. Are you getting power to your coil???
NYG- after reading your post, about the crankshaft sensor, I went & traded out the old one. Still no spark. Not getting any fuel smell out the tail pipe either. My gut is telling me that something is not letting the Automatic Shut Down power up the coil or open the fuel injectors. When I put a scanner on it, I did not read any trouble or errors. I did try a differant relay, but no change.
ewetho-this may be dum question but where is the coil (is that the funny box on the valve cover with the leads to the spark plugs?
I never had this kind of trouble with my 62 Triumph TR3. I could allways get it to run. Thank you duct tape & bailing wire.lol
thanks John
