Default New Headlight Assembly or Clean It?

I was driving home the other night and relized that my headlights have a nice jondice color to them. I believe it is from the headlight lense. I was thinking I could maybe buff it out but I figured one of you has surely tried this before. If so did it work or do I have to buy all new ones?

I just recently cleaned mine.
I did it with a small buffer about the size of a softball. go very slow,at a high speed.
I used a compound called finness.
wow they look brand new.
I know some people are scared to use a buffer but if you know what you are doing it wont hurt them.
not all compounds will work.
the few i know that work well are finess, scratch out, and flitz
by the way its not worth taking out the headlight assembly.
I took one out and the one I left in looks better.
its really not worth it to buy new headlights if you dont want to change the syle of them.
Mine look brand new I was very suprised.
hope this helps

I just finished polishing my lenses. And I have to say, it worked pretty damn well considering I dont have a buffer/polisher. I did it by hand using some Scratch Out I had in the garage. They'd probably look even better if I had a buffer.

you can get a small electric buffer for pretty cheap at like wallmart.
it might make an even bigger difference.

Opps works alright as well... probably not as good as the buffer and stuff though... but with cleaning you will just have to do it again so i would just save up and buy Diamond Clear headlights or those Crystal ones.

If it's really bad you can also wetsand them....don't be afraid to do it.
First thing I would do (if you have time) is remove them from the car so that you don't wetsand the surrounding area if you don't have time, then just mask off the area with tape and some old rags, newspaper, or something.

Depending on how bad the lens is will determine what grit to start with...
I've started with 400grit for about 10 minutes around the entire lens, but don't put a lot of pressure down.
Go up to 600grit for 10 minutes (again, not too much pressure), then 800grit for another 10, then 1000grit=10 minutes, next use 2000grit=15minutes, finally use some plastic polish until you get a clear finish. I use Megiuars Scratch X and it works great.

The trick is not to put your guns down on the lens or you will create deeper scratches, but don't press too light either or you'll be at it forever and it won't turn out "like new" but only semi-"like new", lol. Also, keep the sandpaper wet at all times. You can use a bit of car soap to help keep the water on the paper and to help the paper slide.

If your lenses aren't really bad but just yellow, then wetsand with 1000grit instead until the yellow is gone, next, go to the 2000grit until you get a smooth finish, then polish until it shines like new...
Don't be afraid to wetsand though, they do it all the time with freshly painted cars.

There are different variations to wetsanding, this is mine and it's worked great for my lenses.

APC Projectors suck on the neon...light output isn't very good. I have heard some good things about Depo's...here is a link...
