give it a tune-up, check the trans fluid, then give it a try. if that don't help, you might have to adjust the trans belts. you'll have to pull the battery and it's holder out to get to the adj nuts. take care to discon the batt temp sensor before pulling the batt tray or your batt light will stay on.

its 96 highline sohc auto trans with 120 grand on it

Change spark plugs with champion copper plugs, air filter, PCV valve, and change the tranny fluid. It mat be time for a tune-up as suggested. Have the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner pulley been replaced? The neon timing belt is a 100,000 mile belt and may snap on you soon.
