odd problem with ac/heat
ok, so my wife just called me and said that her heat/ac wasnt working, you can hear the blower kick on but nothing comes out of any of the vents....(a couple days ago the heat/ac worked great)....she also said that the a/c lines under the hood were covered with frost, and the heater box under the dash is covered with frost too.....i havent had a chance to look at it yet cuz she is still working....but i did notice the lines under the hood the other day...yet i cant figure out what it could be...any ideas???
your not getting enough air across your evap coil, check your air passages for leaves, rat nests and so forth.
also possible (more than likely) your refrig level is a bit low. this will let the low press side get real cold. as the tubes sweat, the water freezes, ice forms, blocking up your evap coil, and snowballs till no air can go through your vents.
let the ice melt, try it for a while and see what's up. good luck.
so where is the evap coil????...should i just add more refridgerant if there is no blockage???(i put in 2 cans when i charged it and it had nothing in there previously because i had just swapped the engine)...im new to the whole a/c thing..i usually just rip it off after i get the car, i dont use a/c but the wife does...and she said the heat was working on the way to work(2a.m.) but when she was leaving work, about 30min. later, it wouldnt work
evap coil is under the dash, the condensor coil is behind the front bumper.
basic sys overview: the compressor compresses the r134a from a gas to a liquid, then pumps it to the condensor coil. air is drawn over the coil to get rid of heat. after exiting the condesor coil the tube that the 134 goes through gets bigger alowing the 134 to go from liquid to a gas. A LOT of heat is taken up when it goes to a gas. the 134 goes inside the cabin to the evaperator coil. air is drawn over the coil, transfering the heat from the air into the 134. then the 134 goes back to the compressor.
try sucking out the sys to see if will hold a vacum. if not start replacing seals or looking for holes some place. good.luck.
