OOOOk So we have a problem, my friends neon has low compression in the first piston and the third, 60 in 1 and 120 in 3, So we popped the head off, and none of the valves were bent, or blown out, so we started investigating the pistons, this is what we found



That is the 1st piston with the edge missing a little. Im sure that would cause the low compression? Right?

Finnaly, we had an idea from the local neon guy, that you can take The 2.4 bottom end and put the 2.0 sohc Top end on? The neon guy runs the v8 class with his other neon that has the 2.4 bottom end, and the sohc top end. Anyone ever heard of this?

Any imput on this would help us out some! Thanks!

 

havn't heard about it. when he says bottom end does he mean just the crankshaft or the whole rotating assy (pistons, rods, and crank)?

 

Pistons rods crank block the whole shabang!

 

I wouldn't think the 2.4 bottom would mate with a SOHC...maybe a DOHC seeing as how the 2.0 and 2.4 DOHC heads are the same.

just a heads up, minus the head and everything bolted to the block is the "short block". keep us posted, would like to hear the build. good luck.
