Okay so here goes. I need help! I mean SERIOUS HELP! This might be long, but please please just take a look. I have a 1998 neon. Recently, my oil or fluid light came on and then I had it checked and SOMEHOW oil got into my water.. funny thing is the car never over heated and there was no water in the oil. OKay, so I ended up buying another motor for the car. So, I had the motor put in and then.... the damn thing starts bucking! Like in any gear it was jerking really hard, I would be pushing the gas and then it was jerk. So then, we found out some how my air filter was soaking wet.. got a new one yesterday. Hasn't bucked since. NOWWWWW the car is just shutting off when I am either coming to a stop or have stoped.. and I won't even know it, I will try to put it in gear and take off and it's shut off.. so it doesn't stall or jerk.. it just shuts off. Maybe electrical???? I had it put on diagnostics and they said my computer was sending out no bad signals. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!
Here is some stuff about my car you may need to know.. it is a 5 spd., 1998, origanal raido isn't in it, another one is and system in in trunck....oh yeah, I've noticed that every once in a while when I am taking curves.. the light inside flicker and raido shuts off and on. But could that elecrical problem cause it to shut off? I am so stressed out. I have noone to help me with money or rides to work! PLEASE HELP. Thank you if you're still reading this!! =)

 

oh forgot to add, that the speedometer just quit working and gas needle is flucuating!! thankx!! =)

 

try to clean the battery posts, and check the grounds

 

Thank you. Will do! Could it be the after market radio that is hooked up? Or the wiring?? B/c I do know that the electrical is all messed up.. could that make it stall??

 

I think it was the speed sensor!! Not sure though, we will see what happens!

 

If it's the speed sensor, then your odometer should not work either.

 

Sounds like a short somewhere to me, the radio shouldnt have anything to do with it. Is the check engine light on? if it is check for codes and that should tell you what the problem is. Also check your fuses, I belive there is one for the gauges..

 

sounds like the gound cable might be corroed or loose

 

Check your downstream 02 sensor wires. They may be grounding out on the axle/boot as well as other wires down there. They have been known to sag on turns or under acceleration(if you have bad mounts that wouldn't help). The harness is on the p-side lower by the block(near the firewall).
You could also check the wiring by the egr valve. They may have rubbed there and being tha the egr valve pipe is hot..it can melt.
This could be just a crank sensor issue btw. It's on the lower rear passenger side of the block. Those wires are also in the harness that can potentially rub the axle and short everything out.
It is possible it's just a sensor ..maybe crank etc..but I would check the wiring before buying any sensors. Make sure you look good.

Well, I'm not too sure.. but yes, the check eng. light was on.. and the only code it was pulling was speed sensor.. and yes my speedodemeter was not working.. I got the sensor changed and hasn't cute off since! Hopefully that was the problem! But thank you all for all the advice! You all are so great!!
