crap. hey guys my sister car was over heating again. we replaced the theromostate and did a complete coolant flush and well it ran great for 2 weeks... and then it over heated yesterday so i went to add coolant and i added a grand total of half a gal. of anti-freeze. i could smell anti-freeze from the motor bay but yet i jacked up the car and ran it and there was no leakage of coolant. so my next thing to check was the oil and tail pipe. the oil is fine... just a little black (needs to be changed) and the tail pipe is just filled with burnt oil and i didn't smell any anti-freeze from the tail pipe. is there anyway it could be leaking into the combustion chamber and just burning completely without leaving any smell? cause this is beginning to drive me CRAZY!

it could be leaking outta the water pump even, and with the heat of the motor evaporating

it could b leakin from anywhere...check the rad an see if theres any cracks, all it takes is the smallest crack. I lost my baby cause of that =( R.I.P. 626, there was a small crack in the rad, dint think it would cause much harm. I drove it for a bit erything seemed ok, then one nite she overheated, I think I melted the engine =(. I think its cause the coolant wasnt under any pressure, the more the pressure the higher the boiling point for a liquid. jus in case you dint no...so if the oil looks ok an the exhaust smells ok you mite wanna take her to a garage an have them look for a leak. o yea check your oil cap....if theres a milky substance, theres a coolant leak prolly sumwhere in the block or could b a headgasket
hope that helped

if you see absolutely no leaks or trace of leaks anywhere i would guess it might be the head gasket, it could be just buring the coolant if its leaking into the cylinders only,... wait till the car is cold, start it up, run for about 30 seconds rev it up one or twice then shut it off and see if theres alot of pressure in the cooling system, that could indicate a leaky head gasket, - or any water in the oil? or the bottom of the oil fill cap milky..

I had a pinhole leak in the rad as well, drove me nuts trying to find it since it would evaporate almost immediately. It was at the top of the rad, where the end bell is crimped on, so when it cooled down, nothing leaked out. Found it by accident as it steamed out onto my arm while checking the oil... verified by taking it into the bathtub (if you do this, don't let the wife catch you!).

Best of luck!

lol...i'm a teenager so it would be more like my mom lol...

I had no idea that the more pressure the coolant was under the higher the boiling point was. so i guess i'll be looking for a leak in the rad. thanks guys

stop leak will work for SMALL holes, but so does ground black pepper. this is more of a band-aid fix than anything else and you run the risk of clogging cooling passages in the head and rad if you add more than one can. have you checked your hoses to make sure thats not the prob? might be a loose clamp. better to find the leak and get it fixxed.

to find the leak try this: get a cheap bike inner tube (2 inch wide min). cut the valve stem off with about 4 inches of the tire on both sides of the stem. cut the tube again so the part that is still hanging on the stem looks like a square. remove the rad cap and put the valve stem where the cap went. hold on with wire or rubber bands. plug up the overflow hose. press the sys with bike pump. DO NOT GO OVER 15PSI. this should show you were the leak is. hope this helps, good luck
