Theres always buying a higher flowing exhaust system, and a higher flowing air filter. That is usually good for at least 1 mpg.
Generally the amount of money you'll spend on modifing the car in the hopes of better mileage is offset by the cost of the part itself.

If you spend $200 on a thermal muffler, and get 1mpg better. You'll have to drive over 100,000 miles just to break even on the cost of gas.

Quit typing in all caps ...A wheel alignment should have no affect on your gas milage. Try a good all-around tune-up: spark plugs and wires, PCV valve, fuel filter, and air filter.

But 23-28 mpg in a city driving isn't that bad with an auto. That's about the factory rating.

sorry about the caps!! lol! yeah im gonna do spark plugs for now since i can do that myself. and i didnt plan on spending $200 on a muffler for 1 mpg. my air filter should still be good. i changed it about 6,000 miles ago. its a fram. and thanks for finally telling me that my gas mileage was norm for city!! i thought i was getting jipped! as long as its normal im not tryin to improve it!

ummmm...................new forum..... fuel filter!!!!

Err, who says an wheel alignment wouldnt have anything to do with gas milage? I had all 4 of my wheels aligned and went from a **** poor 26mpg to about 34mpg...

Really???? I hadn't heard of that, but I will remember that now. How far out of wack was your alignment?

Hmm, they were off pretty well.. I couldnt take my car over about 70.. It was out of balance also.. but I have also heard of other people who just had alignment off getting bad mileage... I need to do mine again.. Anyone notice their neons pull hard to the right?... Mine pulls to the right and then its harder to turn left than it is to turn right.. any ideas? ((Sorry, not trying ot steal the thread..))

yea, mine pulles to the right too but i'm not gonna put any more $$ into it unless i have to. at first i thought maybe the tire was leaking, why i check it every fill up (1 1/2-2 weeks).

as for the gas mlieage think about it this way: in a perfect world your tires would be straight and true like those of a train (choo-choo). zero cast, camb, and toe. for comp-ra-mise reasons all cars have some of each. tracks better, turns better, and all the FUN parts of driving. all of these are adj, 'cause it's easy and cheaper to adjust than replace. all the potholes, bad roads, the times you don't put your wheels straight when you you park have a neg effect on ALL the bits and pieces of your parts. they wear out, strech, and bend. now your tires aren't pointing the same way sooo it is harder for the eng to "push" your car. another example would be a skier. the closer the skis are to being straight the faster he will go. want to slow down? point your toes inward, not outward (but samething on a car). happy motoring.
