Overheating 95 Neon
I have a 95 SOHC Neon. The stupid little car keeps overheating on me. The hubby replaced the head gasket, the thermostat, checked the radiator to see if it was plugged (it wasn't), & has run it to get the air out. Not sure if all air is out, but should be. We can get in the car & drive to town, it's only 2 1/2 miles. It runs at normal temps. We go to the store, go in, come back out, & start home. We get about a mile from the house & the stupid thing goes off the scale. What on earth can cause this? We've done everything we know to it. My hubby has been mechanicing for 40 yrs. & it's got him perplexed. I hope someone can tell me what to do to it. Thanks much. Tammy & Mike
has he checked the temp sending unit ?( pull the codes and see what you get) when he replaced the gasket did he have the head milled, valves polished and head checked for cracks? and was a MLS gasket used? is the water pump functioning correctly? and do you hear any bubbling from the antifreeze tank? if not, it could just be some type of small leak some where causing a problem, could be a small one or even smaller like a pin hole leak help some of that was helpfull and good luck !!
I was having an overheating problem myself. I was about in the same boat as you. But I took out the radiator and flushed it out , started to rinse off the outsideof the radiator and voila, found out half my radiator was shot! All the fins just pushed through with little effort - the pressure from the hose pushed them through. So if I were you, I would take out the radiator and check it over throughly. Make sure all the fins are in there securely. Hope this helps!
That is the same thing that happened to me. i looked it up on the internet and found out that the coolant (radiator) cap kept the pressure in the hoses unconstant. a month later, i have to do an engine swap because it blew. so go out and spend the 6 bucks to get a new cap or you will be in my shoes. (by the way i have a 1st gen 95 plymoth neon SOHC)
Check to make sure the system holds pressure and not leaking and then double check fans and that the radiator is clean. But it sounds like you have a bubble somewhere. You may want to have it vacuum filled to get the air out.

Thanks for all the help y'all. I'll let you know if I've set the car on fire or not. HA! HA! We finally blew the radiator the other day, but never fear, we got another one. I really do appreciate all the help you've given me. Take care & have a good one.
WOO HOO!!! We fixed it! Got another radiator & that solved the overheating. Seems that even if you run flush through one, you still might not clean it completely out. Thanks for all the help y'all!!!
