Default srt-4

if i have the entire srt-4 motor and transmission, aftermarket lowering suspension kit, lightweight rims with high perforamce tires.... is it possible to beat the srt-4 when mods to the engine are the same? possible right? isn't a 1997 doch neon lighter then the srt-4? if it is, then i could beat the srt-4 with the same mods. ??? thanks

You have to take into consideration that the motor alone is heavier than a stock DOHC motor, as is the transmission... Other than that, I wouldn't know.. I beleive it all depends on the driver, not the car! For instance: My buddy has a 2005 Chevy Cavilier, its got a Short ram intake, 60 or 70mm TB, and a short throw shifter, and my Neon take it by 3 car lengths (Kid you not!) He drove with me, and relised that alot of his problem is the way he drives. He is a poor shifter, that is his downfall.

Plus, why put all the time, work and money into dropping the SRT-4 when you would get much more of a thrill just by boosting up your stock DOHC, you can beef those motors up to beyond belief, especially if you aren't worried about gas milage. I would love to see the look on a SRT-4's owner when they get whomped by a 1st gen *wicked laugh*

To thaguamanian:Yes a 1st gen with an SRT-4 motor would beat a STOCK srt-4 in a drag and autocross.

To NEONRT98: The SRT-4 motor is capable of putting out more power than a boosted DOHC neon, that's why you go through all the trouble.

Yes I would say you could kick it's ***.First of all you would be better off useing the trans from fist gen (easier).Tha first gen is quite a bit lighter (2 dr even better)acr even lighter yet(no options). I'll let you know in a few weeks when I do this swap.(03 srt motor-97 cams ported & polished head and intake (95 alluminium) 55mm tlb+ stand alone engine management system. And hopefully stage 1 clutch set-up (need more cash)+ hone up my driveing slills[:-]

What are 97 cams and why would you not use the SRT-4's intake?
