My GF's new car came with a CAI, it's purple plastic, and has a real K&N cone filter on the end of it, I'm thinking, due to the purple, it's a real K&N model, it placed the filter right in front of the front DS tire, below the battery, but I cut about 4" out of it when I took it apart to clean it, so it wouldn't sit in such a mud prone area, sure I probably lost 2 hp, but I figured it is worth it for the lower maintainance, that, and if I want the 2 hp back, I could make a sheetmetal cover for the filter, and run a pipe from the filter down lower, or run it, ram-air style to the fog light hole. How are they stock? You say they are over the ex mani? cuz hers has a 2.5" hole, punched in the metal (looks stock) that looks like it leads to the fog light hole... But hers is a DOHC, do they place the intake in a different spot on DOHC's than SOHC's? Anyone have a pic of a stock DOHC's intake?
That would not be a real ram air though, just to let you know. The DOHC and SOHC intake manifolds are in the same location, only the DOHC is aluminum and the SOHC is usually plastic.
i am going to assume that the 2.5" whole you are talking about in the metal by the fog light is just to the side of the radiator....if it is, then it for a little plastic drain tube that hooks to the front of the battery tray....though the tube and the front part of the tray might not be intact
