starter? or what?????
had start probs on both a 94 niss p/u and a 78 volvo. both were the starter. on the 94 it acted AND sounded like a charging prob. when i checked with a volt meter the batt kept 10+ volts while cranking and 13.5+ while runing=starter. the 78 was same deal, BUT i could hand crank the eng over by turning the belts (it's a volvo) and get it to crank for a while.
the niss had a bad solder in the brush assy (always tear it down when you have the time) and the volvo had a few bad contacs were the brush hit the windings (on the winding assy). later, on the volvo i had a prob with the one wire alt grounding on the block (it ran 'tween the block and the header). hope it helps. i have to go color now with the kid. good luck.

Before you go through the trouble of replacing the starter (and its a BITCH, let me tell you)... Check your entire ground cable from the battery to the block or mount.. Its possible the other end of the ground is messed up, mine was! Definately check that!!
My car did the same thing. Ran good, then click, click, click.
Turns out there is a nut on top of the start, you can see it when you look down at it, it;s around the middle of the starter, make sure that baby is clean and tight, as it stopped my starter from working.
Good Luck
