A Few Budget Modification Questions
Well, to be honest with you guys... my original plans for this thing was to just keep it stock and fix up my Blazer sitting in the driveway. But, it needs new headlights (current ones are yellowing and suck), tires, and a few other things.
Now, factory replacement headlights are expensive for this thing (1997 Dodge Neon -- don't ask what type... the title just says Neon... it's a 4-door if that helps.) $102.99 each from Advance Auto Parts. So, I was skimming through eBay and found some of the non-stock replacements that are a little cheaper for the pair than stock is for one. (Well, really about the same, but still.) Anyway, my questions were:
1. Which ones look better, in your opinion. (The Neon is green, and is going to stay that way. :-\)
2. How is the quality on them? Is it worth the money?

Also, I know a lot of folks would love to improve the handling on their Neon... I am one of them. The only problem is, since I'm still a high school student; I have rent, insurance, food, etc. bills to pay for; I have a crappy, high-school job; and I am also enrolled in a college history course I don't have a lot of money to be throwing around on this thing. I really do wish I could afford some Koni's, but I don't think I can... and if I could I'd spend the money on the 350SBC for my Blazer. Point being, I'd like to know if there is any way to significantly improve the handling without blowing a lot of money on it. I doubt the cheap, $20 eBay coilovers would do the trick, but I was wondering if there might be some in the $100-150 range that might help a bit. Also, on the topic of handling, I need new tires. Though my dad will argue that my tires aren't nearly bald, they are. I'm sorry folks, but just about 1/8 of an inch of tread is damn near bald in my book (for the type of tires at least.) What type of tires would you recommend for the stock rim size? How about for 17" rims? (Yes, I'm pondering new rims. Hah.)
Sorry about the long post, sorry for not searching more, but it's been a long day and I'm exhausted. Thanks to those that reply.
To those that want to flame or say something about me not searching, I know... I've been around boards long enough. I deserve it so give it a go. Heh.

for the headlights some good ones are the depo projectors or the diamond ones. I have the apc projectors which catch a lot of heck on here lol but they worked out fine for me where I live so im happy but a lot of people here will tell you that you the depo's and diamonds are the route to go, and to make the projectors even better installing a HID kit for around 200 on ebay would be a nice added touch. not to discourage you in any way shape or form but if you straped for cash then moding your car wouldn't be a good idea there are some mods that wont brake the bank but when your getting into moding droping 100 and up on purchase is easy, especially if your looking into improving the handling of your car and better rims. but if you find the right places and the right people you can catch some good deals in the suspension and rims, and stay away from those coils on ebay. there are some nice shocks kits on there though that run 200 for the front and 200 for the back as for the websites that would have some at a decent price I believe I saw something in summit once could try jegs as well, im not really sure where to find nice and cheap rims though but im sure someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction on this as well as everything else you asked about, good luck and hope some of that was helpfull
as for the suspension....get some kyb-gr2's...they are fairly cheap on ebay for a set of 4.....i have konis on my car and 2 of them are just about shot.....so im gonna get some kyb's here soon enough.....
as for the headlights...go with choice number 2...just make sure you find the right year for your car...
im not sure about tire brands...but if you go 17's...you can usually find the srt4 rims pretty cheap and look real good on the older neons....but if you get 17's make sure to use a 205/40 17 tires.....i have some fuzion ZRi's on my car...i really like the tires and they were real cheap from tirerack.com

$200 HID kit????? Real ones cost around $1000.
I'd stay away from APC products and projectors for the neon unless you are willing to spend the extra money on an a real HID kit. The light output on projectors are worse than stock. Go with some diamond clears from eBay. Depo's are the best but will cost a few more $$$$.
Stock tires should be 195/60/14.

hey now i just said it was a kit lol, ive seen them on there before some will cost you about four hundred, there is a website that gets into the entire HID process and breaks a lot of it down but I dont remember what it was called, those Kyb-Gr2's are the ones I was talking about not really sure how good they are but If anyone here has them Id like to know.
thanks that was on the list of upgrades for the car. I went into pepboys once because I saw they where having a sale and when he looked up the shocks for it and it cost way more then the GR2's. the guy told me to try ebay and I said I already have, I just figured it would cost less at the store because they aren't aftermarket ones. would have cost me over 600 total for the front and back from them, those Koni's must feel real good lol.
