Default engine swapping nightmare

ok so on wednesday the wife decided she didnt like the motor in her car anymore, so she figured she would blow it up....well it had a horrible rod nock in it...so while driving it to my garage i was beating the hell outta the car.....got it into the garage and held the gas to the floor for about 5 minuites...(it wouldnt run any higher then 4,500rpms)....just though i would have some fun with it....
but anyways, i figured it would be a straight swap, her motor out and one of my extra motors would go in.......HAHA[&:]

so i started ripping her motor out, no problems.....then i decide to check my motor over before i put it in, well i adjust the timing and while rotating the assembly, i can hear air comming from the oil ports in the head.....great, now i need to put rings in it first...[:@]
and while i was adjusting the timing, i broke one of the tensioner pin bolts off in the oil pump....i have a tendency to break off alot of bolts....[:@]

so i order the rings from oreilys auto parts, go to put the rings on some pistons i have lying around, hey! they ordered me the wrong rings....great, now i have to wait til tuesday to get new ones.....

so i want to use the oil pump off another motor i have, that motor comes apart fine...but since i cant get the oil pump off the crank, i figure i will use the crank too....
go to take the other motor apart to get the old crank and oil pump out so i can put the new one in....then two of the connecting rod cap bolts become stripped out...on two different rods...[&:]....so i grind them off because i want to use that block with my other crank and oil pump...finally get them off and take out the crank and all the guts.....

so after a few hours of gettin pissed off, i finally grease all the main bearings, install the crank, and mount the bottom of the block that hold the crank on......i torque all the bolts like the manual says and then the crank wont turn!!!!even i couldnt turn it...and i can bench like 250....so there must be sumthing wrong here......get to thinkin about it, after removing the crank and bearings half a dozen times that now i need new main bearings.....so i have to order those tomorrow and will get them tuesday too....and i also now need a new intake manifold gasket......

this all really sux....i dont mind swapping motors, but ive never rebuilt one before.....i just rip it out and go buy another one....so now, the wife is gonna have an almost brand new motor by the time i get done with it.....its just a shame that i have to use all the parts i was saving for my turbo motor buildup[:@] and now my garage is a mess because there are basically 3 motors all ripped apart all over the place.....
i know this was kinda pointless, but im so irritated about all this

it's always something, sorry to hear your having some issues, reminds me when my headgasket blew, I cracked my head, my oil switch blew so when I was driving home I was like one big cloud, the motor mounts where shot, literally in pieces when I looked at them at the shop, my radiator had some green funky looking stuff on it not to mention it was just busted my fly wheel had turned black and blue from a leak, now ive just replaced the alternator about a week ago and that wasn't even the problem, ive replaced both belts 3 times and have had to tighten them more then that all in unfavorable weather, its coming down to the bearings going out so the alt belt is shredding because some part in the car isn't pulling it's weight lol. things will get better though just a minor set back. you will have your car the way you want it in no time, good luck !!

Rebuildin an engine is harder then it looks...speakin from experience....I bought the neon cause I thought all it needed was a set of rod bearings. takin the thing apart is nothin. its findin decent priced parts an figurein out wat part needs changin. when I had a machinist check the bottom end he said worst case scenerio I'd have to change all the bearings (main an rod) an the #1 connecting rod. when I took it apart for closer inspection, there was alot of tiny metal shavings in my oil pan, so I was told that I should get a new oil pump, cause the one on it prolly got screwed up wit all those metal shavings in it. I needed new rings, bought a refurbished crankshaft, new main an rod bearings, gasket set. had to get my cylinders honed, and my #1 connecting rod was outta round so I did need a new one. forgot wat else I needed but all the parts for the engine came up to about $900, I thought it was done....so I put my engine in...relocating my battery, new belts (serpentine and timing), bought sum high temp paint, rust proofin paint for under the car an stuff, old brake rotors were soooooooooooooo rusted I couldnt even hammer it off (took me an hour jus to get one side off) I havent even checked the rear drums, motor mount bushings, engine + tranny oil. basically all together it came to 1500. And ppl's tellin me that buyin a used engine from the wreckers woulda been better, but they dunno the fun is in workin on your own car, thas priceless, erything else theres a master card =D

I think your route was probably the best. look at it this way, if you had bought one from the yard it would have probably cost you more anyways engine plus the parts you would have wanted, at least this way you know everything was in working order and how you wanted it inside and out.

i get my engines from the guy near me for 400.00.....but he doesnt have any right now anyways, and i dont want the new motor to have problems too...so i figure i will just rebuild.....actually i didnt decide to rebuild because i didnt think it needed this much work[:@]...just really didnt have too much of a choice

today i ordered a new intake gasket, new main bearings, and new rod bearings.....

so now the motor will have: new rod bearings, new main bearings, new intake gasket, new oil pan gasket, new rear main seal, new head gasket
so far total spent for parts for rebuild....$240.00....so either way its been cheaper then buying another motor....all the parts will be in tuesday.....too bad i have to wait that long, hopefully the car will be goin by wednesday or maybe thursday as long as nothing else goes wrong
