Default Motor swapping question?

Can you take a DOHC motor out of a 97 neon and put it in a 98 SOHC Neon? If so, do you have to swap the computer and what else would be involved? And also, can you use the 98 sohc water pump on the 97 dohc motor? Thanks!

yea... i'm gonna be doing that when my SOHC blows... u just have to swap the PCM and maybe some sensors...and from what a guy that works on Neons said that you have to shave some of the hood off (from underneath) but i dont think so...

you wouldnt have to shave the hood off because both engines come in identicle body styles. It should fit right in there.

wrong. to run a dohc motor you have to cut the bracing out of the sohc hood. otherwise, it won't close. I had a completely cut sohc hood when running my dohc, but I HAD to swap over to a dohc hood for my 2.4. still had to cut that one as well.

yes.
my car was originally a 95 highline sohc.
harness was made into a single plug 95 by the way of a 96 dohc harness.
now running an 01 pt engine.
it's possible to run the sohc harness by just splicing in the dohc plugs for your year range.
water pump will be your year range and engine.

The DOHC comes with the power bulge hood to clear the cam gears. Some people have to cut the bracing out, some don't. You will also need the passenger side motor mount bracket for the DOHC.
