Shifting into reverse is wierd
This is more of an annoyance than a serious problem but here goes:
I can shift into all gears perfectly fine, but reverse is kind of wierd. sometimes i have to like ease it in there, and it doesnt really go into gear until the shifter is pretty much all the way back. Sometimes when it does go in, i can hear the gears kind of grind for like a split second and it shakes and then goes in. That only happens when i do it carelessly not keeping in mind this problem, so its not like im running around grinding my gears every day. Hence this isnt critical but ive always wondered what causes these problems...

FSM Says:
Hard shifting may be caused by a misadjusted crossover cable. If hard shifting is accompanied by gear clash, synchronizer clutch and stop rings, or gear teeth may be worn or damaged. Misassembled synchronizer components also cause shifting problems. Incorrectly installed synchronizer sleeves, struts, or springs can cause shift problems.
Your reverse gear may be getting worn a bit.

i would tend to think it was the misadjusted cable. I dont normally get the gear clash, just when i dont have it all the way in and let up on the clutch, which is obviously my fault and not that of the car. Is that thing hard to adjust?
i have about 1k on my new clutch and have the same prob. don't matter if the clutch is all the way in or not. L/R cable is good, front to rear bushing on the MTX is bad. the slower i shift the better it goes. i DO know the guy who had it before me thrashed the heck out of it, it had 84k when i got it and the clutch was GONE. BTW 96 sohc mtx.
