Why would you want the plastic one on there anyway?

because i do.. when ya race and your car has to be 100% "stock" you have to try everything you can to get any extra power out of it and still check out as stock unmodified not ported stock compression - PCM evrything, anything i can do to gain 1/2 HP i need
i smoothed out an aluminum intake and they made me cahnge it to an untouched stock one, so i gotta do anything i can, i just need a little more midrange torque out of it
the rules are it has to be all factory parts, if it came on any other kinda of neon (or type of car your using) you can use it on yours,
i can change to rear disc brakes from another car, wheels, ATX throttle body, whatever, it just has to be a stock part from a neon

Ahhh, OK I see. I was gonna say just port and polish the inside of your DOHC intake.

I was under the impression that the the longer runners like in the 95-99 dodge stratus have more torque.

i'm sure you have put the car on a diet already. have you tried running rear drums, they are lighter. i read that on stock cars 2 lbs = 1 hp (weight savings). have you pulled wiring harnesses, park brake hardware, heat shields, gutted the cat, roof liner. be neat to know what youv'e done so far. good luck.

Don't know where you read that, but it ISN'T true at all. Weight reduction DOES NOT add HP...it can help shave time off in the 1/4 mile. But it's more like 100 lbs helps you shave off 0.1 of a second.

my car is down to 1876 Lbs with me in it and just enough fuel to make it a whole race, thats not too bad with the cage in, im using rear drums, i have an aluminum race seat, the doors, trunklid is nothing but the outer skin welded on, wiring is to a bare minimum, anything i dont need is out of that car, the dash is just sheet aluminum, sun roof hole is covered with aluminum,
the cage adds alot of weight back in, i pull all teh cars down the straight most of the time, the problem i have is torque coming out of the corner, i cant run the bottom of the track or its flat on its face coming out of the corner, if the high groove is cleaned off from late models out before us i can stay up there & just fly, but if theres no bite up there and i have to run the bottom i lose my *** from it slackin off below 4500 rpm, if i downshift to 2nd i just hit the rev limiter within 2 feet so it kills more time shifting than just leaving it in 3rd
i can run bigger tires and shift and not have too much problem, but its hell on the transmission shiftin so much, and that one missed gear can cost you alot of positions, so im trying to get it right so i can run 3rd and leave it there, if your not distracted by having to worry about shifting you can concentrate on driving that much more
