...it was far from stock, but still N/A.
I have a friend that got a 97 dohc last summer. The guy he bought it from was a local street racer.I know it had an indy intake, bored tb, mp pcm, and supposively a lightned flywheel and racing clutch.I went out there to check out the car and race him.Beforehand I put in some octane booster in my neon, Im guessing I was running somewhere around 100 octane...
His car was lowered, had rims, he popped the hood, and every square inch under the hood was lined with stickers.I was thinking.."man Im gonna get smoked" at the time.So we took them down a country road and lined em up.Another friend of ours flagged our start. We both started off burning rubber, I stayed in first gear untill I was catching good traction before going into second. He went into second much sooner...his mistake. By the time I hit 2nd, I was far enough ahead to easily get in front of him....I was about 2 car lengths ahead going into 3rd, and I was pulling away from him more in 3rd...As I was reaching about 90-95, I looked back, and he was allready on his brakes, and turning around.
I went back to try to race again, but he didnt want nothing to do with it...lol He also had nos in his neon, but the tank was empty at the time of our race.A few weeks later he ended up blowing it up due to the nos...
Now he bought a 2.4 liter to throw in there. He also told me hes got an extra 2.0 that he would sell me for $50....that reminds me..I gotta call him...
Im not saying sohc is faster than dohc....but I will say it's gonna be a close race with a driver like me..

hey das......wana race??????
hey das......wana race??????
i had a 95 sohc and i was faster than all stock dohc's and all i did was solid front and rear motor mounts,a auto tb,a ported manifold self done, ported head and intake self done,an empty catalyser, cold air intake,,,,,and i was smoking alot of the boy's at the drags my best time was 9.86 on a 1/8th of a mile and most of the dohc's were running in low 10's,,i have a dohc now and going to try the same just crossing my finger's the motor will take it,,it's said that the dohc's are not tough,,,hopefully their wrong,,,
only those mods and you were running 9.86?????
sounds unlikely to me[:'(]
the dohc's are pretty durable motors......8psi boost on a completely stock internal dohc motor with 160,000 miles and i havent had problems yet
