Catylatic Converter Removal

RE: Catylatic Converter Removal
I know, I was just saying that unleaded stinks and can be easily noticed without a catalytic converter, thus giving away the fact that the car is without a catalytic converter. They make unleaded race gas which is harmless, but probably still smells bad without a cat. Leaded race gas, which will screw up the O2 sensor and plug a catalytic converter with prolonged use, smells great both raw and coming out the tailpipe of a catless exhaust.

RE: Catylatic Converter Removal
yea i miss the smell of race fuel from my old car, scattered the engine & havent got back to building another - lots of $$$$$
drank a gallon of fuel in 4 miles but sure beat a little rice grinder in power
the DOHC muffler from what i hear really helps the sohc engine and isnt loud of course
high flow cat might give a little gain too, especially if yours has alot of miles, really other than the restictave SOHC muffler, the stock exhaust isnt all that bad
the old gas guzzler[8D]

RE: Catylatic Converter Removal
Thats what I think im gonna do for the exhaust. Im not gonna spend big bucks for a header, because my neon will never be fast. If I can free it up a little its just to help the engine breathe better and give +1-2 mpg.
Is the cat neccessary? I dont know when it was changed last, but im at 200k and all the receipts I have dont say anything about catalyst. Is that gonna free it up too much? Its an auto so its gonan need the low end torque to get going. Im not looking for power, just kinda make things better you know what I mean?

not around here, you dont have to have a converter in your exhaust system. I think it should be required, I mean it doesnt cost a whole lot and it saves the earth too. Either itll stay in or itll get replaced by a high flow.
Its kinda hard to tell if its still good or not. I mean the neon is slow, but I cant account that to be because of the cat. Its because its a single overhead automatic
