help engine is popping
I just got this car 1999 Neon 2.0 car is popping through intake any suggestions the car has 131000 miles but has had tuneup about a week ago has noise in top end of motor seems to do it real bad when you get on it
Can you describe the popping a bit more? Is it more like a ticking that speeds up as the RPM's go up? There are a couple of things under the hood that will make a popping sound. Loose spark plugs, sticky valve, purge duty solenoid.
I am new here so not quite sure exactly how to use this site, but anyways here it is motor seems to run ok untill you have to get in gas, then it just sounds like a popcorn popper. It does however have two codes one is 43 other is 24 I changed coil pack did not fix problem
Change your spark plugs with some stock Champiom copper plugs for the code 43 and inspect your wires also. The 24 is a bad TPS sensor. Pull it out and clean it up with some sensor safe cleaner and that may also be what is causing the popping in your intake.
TPS will definately cause it if its bad, it can cause a lean condition and it'll make it backfire through the intake alot
bent valves & jumped timing belt will also cause that, but go for the spark plugs & TPS first and make sure you have good fuel pressure

you always have a slimy black film in the intake, EGR and crankcase breather makes a mess out of it

More so the EGR valve, and that can be fixed easily with a blockoff plate, that is if your county does not require emissions testing...

Not if they physically look under the hood :-D If they dont look under the hood, you can put in the Mopar Performance PCM that doesnt read for the EGR, thus will not throw the code.
