Default Suspension? 1999 Neon

I am getting a clunking out of the front while driving. When I go very slow I don't get it or don't notice it, and when I accellerate it disappears until I let off the gas and then it can get very loud and disturbing. Usually I can find a speed around 55 to 60 where it is virtually unnoticealbe but as soon as I start to slow down, it comes back on strong. Any one have any thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks much for your input.

I would take a look at the struts and strut mounts first.

strut bushings, control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends will quit making noises under acceleration or braking
