ATX to MTX?
Alright, I was wondering a couple of things:
First, what parts would I need (and I mean every part) to fully convert my 1999 Dodge Neon SOHC (sedan) from ATX to MTX?
Second of all, how much (ballpark figure) would this cost?
- Could I save money by going to a junkyard and getting certain things?
- How hard would this be do myself?
Lastly, how much HP and torque (ballpark figures) would I gain?
The reason I ask if because I want to minor in automechanics at college next year, but I know nothing about the mechanics of cars! I figured if I saved up money and started working on my car with my friend I'd atleast have some knowledge going into the class and not to mention, a faster car.
Thanks,
Drunkship

2 differnt DOHC trans have a 3.94 final - one of the 2 having a higer 5th gear for better economy
SOHC trans have a 3.55 final

does anyone know how to tell by the number on the trans what it came out of? at a local junk yard they have a few 5 speeds and i need one from a DOHC, but theyre already pulled from the cars... i dont want a SOHC trans (3.55 gear) cuz it will be useless on the track
get the number off the little metal plate on the end of the casing(the part that you would see if you look in the drivers wheel well when its in the car).....then call or stop in the dealer and they can tell you what gear ratio it has
