same reason when installin stereo amps that you dont wanna put a fuse under the hood by the battery and one in the back at a distribution block...because then the power has to run through 3 different fuses......every time power runs through a fuse you can drop it down almost 5%....depending on the fuse size....so therefore, if you fuse the battery between the starter then thats less power that the starter is gonna get that it needs, hense a blown fuse, and then less power to the accessories that also need them
so spud when i put my amp in i shouldnt run an inline fuse to the amp off the battery?(which is in the trunk)

What are you guys talking about? It doesnt blow all the time, and neither does the starter need 100's of amps to crank (apparantly, because it blew once in about 80 starts)

you need to specify your info a bit more thuroughly...it it onlu blew once in 80 cranks then what are you so worried about??????

ziggy,
you deffinately should run an inline fuse off the battery to the amp....but only 1.....im sayin if you have 2 amps, then dont use a fused distribution block and an inline fuse.....just use the inline fuse

Well I checked it out today, and the 80A fuse that I put in (brand new) was starting to look weak in the center, and was probably gonan do the same thing, so I spliced the 4guage wire into 2 parallel lines with 80A fuses, and then back into 1. Ill show you pics later, but basically I took your advice and bumped it up to 160A going to the front. I dont want it popping again.

And specify my info more? I clearly stated how my setup was. THe batter is in the trunk. There is 4guage wire. The 4guage wire goes to fuse, then to engine bay. All power came through that fuse

do you have an oven in there to bake the batter after your done?????

you may have specified HOW it was hooked up, but notting about the fuse, just that it blew out...
did it blow the first time you hooked it up??? did it take a few cranks???? did the fuse blow every time you tried it????
^this is what im talking about

Well my bad, I thought it was straight forward. It only happened once, so I didnt think it was a big deal. But like I said I got a parallel fuse line in there now so it should be all good.
