Default EGR solenoid - fix or not?

The mechanic says I need a new EGR solenoid for my 96 Neon. He says I can wreck my engine if I don't. I am getting sick of sinking money into this car though. Can anyone tell me if it is worth fixing? How long beofre this causes major problems if left unattended?

It wont wreck your engine, but can cause bad gas milage. The EGR valve and transducer should be changed at the same time.

If you dont have E-check, just take the damn thing off and block it.. Much much cheaper...

Keep in mind that while blocked off, you will have the CEL for a Code 32 unless you have an aftermarket PCM.

Theres no way to block it off and trick the computer into not getting a CEL? Like a resister or something?

I know with Vitor's block-off kit he includes a resistor that is supposed to reduce the frequency of the CEL coming on. It's worked for some, not for others.
