1st gen Sohc 2.0 $2600 waste? HEEELLLPP!!!
that is what i had hoped for ... i did an oil cooling unit on a 7.3 diesel , and thats how i learned a few trick about motor mounts , so i definately know what you mean....
last q that i can think of off hand , is where to lift the motor from...
thanks so much again spud

if you dont take too many components off the motor then i hook a chain to the right hand bolt on the fuel rail and the other end on the back of the motor(if you take off the P.S. resivoir then i use either the stud or bolt hole that is there)......if you take alot of the engine components off before you pull the engine out, then i use the top bolt on the power steering pump bracket(the verticle bracket by the timing cover under the intake manifold, made of aluminum, take off this bracket and then use the top bolt hole) and then i use one of the back drivers side exhaust manifold bolts.......chances are that you might have to find use different bolts to mount the chain, or whatever you use.....but by the time you take alot of the components off, you will have plenty of bolts to use
any idea on the average wieght of the engine? im thinking of taking off most of the main accessories , as in ps pump , alt , etc etc.... so i guess i shouldnt have any problems with that... and from what it looks , its just a striaght lift , right? no major twisting or angling to get it out....
::edit:: umm... just skimmed thru the 2000-+ chiltons , and noticed it didnt specificaly state what years the neon was produced so that the engine and transaxle had to be removed , then lowered throu the bottom of the car... im assuming this was a new development bc no one has said anything (and i never thoughtthat would be the only way they would make it...).... then again thats a good ply by chryslr in my mind....

the motor and trans can come out the top of the car while still bolted together....there is no fitment issues or odd twisting...but while you lift up the motor, pull it slightly towards the front of the car....
im not sure of the weight of the motor, but as just a block, head, timing crap, and valve cover, i can lift it onto my workbench without much of a problem

well i probably wont have an update for at least a full day... i talked to a family member in NC , and he has some buddies from up home (youngstown) who are willing to take a look....the guy he talked to said that hes never heard of a rear main seal going bad , but whatever... so now i get to risk more damage to the head by taking it to him , to have him tell me more than the $700 hg price he told me... what a waste of time... but i am moving to nc in 30 days... i was unaware of this... any DF ppl in nc?
oh obviously court's trial verdict was not guilty...

thanks much spud... i know this from further review of all the previous posts... and from what they described , and what i saw , theres no doubt in my mind it was my rear main seal... im not saying this guy is an idiot , but around here most neons are still under warranty... so its no suprise that hes "never heard" of the rear mains going bad on them...
im going to call him for an estimate , first . then ask him how he would go about the procedure (ie lifting motor or dropping trans)... i know dropping the trans isnt that big of a deal to someone with proper toolage , but i never like the way they feel when they are taken out and put back together...
not to mention i was looking forward to getting to the inner tao with my car... i figured this would let me see just what does what , and when...
but from what i have heard , when this guy does motor work , he does valves , cnc's the head , checks cylinder compression , yadda yadda... which is , how he put it ..."not just slapping a head gasket and going"... everyone forgets the bigger picture... something has to be removed...
i guess im just stifled because it feels like noone around me believe what im telling them because im not ASE certified... half the ASE chumps around here dont know dick... (no offense to ASE mechanics ,,, some of you know what youre doing).... but anyways...i digress...
i dont think im taking it out there till im comfortable with him touching it...
