Oil on spark plug threads

RE: Oil on spark plug threads
Yeah, I had it on the threads, not on the side of the electrode. As my car is inherited, not sure if I have records for when things were replaced. My last records indicate a "Head Set" in the year 2k2...I assume it refers to a bunch of gaskets being replaced?

RE: Oil on spark plug threads
An old necromancy bump, but I think I saw a mention on the dot-org recently that attributed oil on spark plug threads to worn piston rings. Work eats into my time, haven't had the time to get around to doing a compression test; and I'm pretty sure that one would settle the matter (take compression on each cylinder, add a bit of engine oil to each, observe for changes which might indicate piston ring wear).

RE: Oil on spark plug threads
I have taken plugs out of cars at 10K miles with 195-200 lbs of compression and had a light coat of oil on the threads. Did you or someone else use Anti-seize??? That might be one source. Other wise oil and old fuel not that big a deal. If it it is heavy on the electrodes or on the resistor (Outer Porcelain part) then you have issues.

RE: Oil on spark plug threads
I *had* anti-seize grease, but I appear to have had enough oil that most of it got mixed up pretty good with the oil. I don't have a spark plug tube seal problem methinks since the connector end appears to be un-oily.
Then again, I should do a compression test just to make sure, I've been putting it off.
