1995 dodge neon automatic transmission problem
Hey,
I have a 1995 Dodge Neon 4 cylinder automatic . It is red and is 4 door. I have had the car for about 3 years now, its all stock and i like it, it gets great gas mileage and very very reliable, no troubles. I think it has about 132,00 miles on it now, its getting up there. The problem is : When i drive the car in drive, it shifts from first to second gear fine, but right after it shifts (about 2 seconds after) it has a pause and it revs up then goes back into gear. It's really strange. It does not do it if you drive it in 2, because it don't shift. I have changed the fluid, and still nothing? I don't know what to really look for or try? any suggestions? thanks!
So problem, in drive, car goes, shifts to second fine, (1-2 seconds after shift), there is a (1-2 secdond) miss i think, and goes down a gear maybe then back to the gear it wants to be in, then goes back into gear.

I had the exact problem, Mine would do the same and goin into third it would over lap like crazy! Something has been broken off, and has caused metal shavings to clog the filter and that could just be the tip of the ice burge. Im having mine rebuilt for $1200, and im having a shift kit put in, I will hopefully have it back tomarrow. Good luck!!
I am having the same problem, I took it to a transmission shop and they told me that the passing gear was going bad and that I would need to rebuild the tranny. A little expensive for my blood, since this is a 1995 Neon Highline. I am curious as to what year tranny's would fit this particular car. I have found a 98 transmission for a lot cheaper and am curious if anyone has put a different year on their Neon.
Wingman, try some penetration lube for your shifters and see if that helps any, soak them up real good and give it a little time, I use to have an issue like that, came to be that my shifters where just really rusty
