tranny shot?!
well... for the next installment of my 2600$ waste , i have noticed something just now on a quick ciggarette jaunt...
i was just out at 2:00 am , temp outside is <40f , and i have a new problem..
when driving , once shes warmed up , she wasnt stalling tonight... she was shifting funny...
im not sure what gear it starts out in seeing as how some cars ive driven start (from dead stop) in first no matter what , some start in second , and some start in either , depending on how much you press on the throttle... i dont know how my neon starts moving , but i did notice the first gear whines out a bit... and shifts harder than i would expect... so i jumped on the freeway for a .5mile run , and when i got on the freeway , from about 25mph and floored it , i didnt get an overdrive gear like im used to.. just kinda putted along until i hit 40-45 range , and then it shifted , and actually accelerated.. there were two cars behind me getting on , one was an early 90's integra , nothing noticeable , and the other was another neon (looked just like mine , but 4 dr ) ... both were automatic , or the drivers were weekend racers , as there was no gap in acceleration...
i get on , they are behind me... i floor it , the car putts... the other two switch to the fast lane and the middle lane and pull about 5 car lengths ahead of me (i dont think they were into the throttle much , but i could be wrong) ... they hit about 80mph and plateau'd ... once i hit 3rd (or 4th?) , she caught at about 45mph and took off... 45-100 in probably 15-20 seconds (i was hard into it) ... the wheel wobbled a little at 60-70 , then went away .. so when i got off , i figured id see if maybe i hadnt floored it like i thought...
so i went down the exchange , and got back on going the other way... this time when i floored it (in "d" ) the pedal went noticeably farther down (past that little bit of rug that stops my huge feet) , and the f!@#er went into nuetral... i got worried that something major might be wrong , so i babied it...i noticed a wierd smell when i got home (almost like a clogged cat , but not as foul) ... so im kinda worried my passing gear may be shot... and having just slipped under the radar of a headgasket , saving 1500$ , im worried i now have a 1200$ tranny rebuild that i cant perform myself... (and im not really in the clear with the hg) ...
please guys , you know who you are , come to muh rescue once again...im tweakin...

Mine was goin through the same thing... it would whine, it wouldnt change gears right, it would feel like it goes into neutral when i get on it... See if you can find a manule tranny and swap them out! Sorry to say... Otherwise your in for a rebuild. Mine did cost 1200 bux, but that was with a shift kit....
spud : you suck this time.. i was counting on you...lol
habit : i was afraid of that....
fast : its still on the road , but im looking at a 500mile trip to nc (thru the mountains of PA) in about a month , and im worried if it will be screwed up...
win : im hoping it will last me a little while longer... the fluid is fine , theres no metal bits to speak of so far , but i do have a couple small drips of tranny fluid in the driveway...thats what initially worried me...
as far as swap goes , i would think about it before id consider a rebuild , but even then i would need a pedal , probably master cylinder , tranny , all lines , shift routing , new console with shifter mount , and column cover for once removed gear selector.... that seems like a big job just talking about it... and then i have to screw with clutches and linkages and oh my... what a headache.... heres a toast to luck...
lets hope it makes it....
