Default is this the cv joint?

i have a 95 neon thats a stick

and about 40 percent of the time when i turn now, there's htis obnoxious noise coming from by the wheels

this would mean the cv joints would likely have to be replaced correct?

I would say its time to change your CV axles.. and if there clicking id say do it soon

i work at a garage and i seen an axle come apart and lock up the wheel on the interstate, no one was hurt but the car went off into the woods

but yeah if the sound only comes when turning then yeah its most likely the axles

If it pops when turning left, it's your right side and vice-versa.

i broke a cv joint once.....i was driving home and the car would just rev up....thought it might be the clutch...then i looked underneath and saw the axel spinning.......i had to push the car 3 miles to my house by myself at 2:00a.m. i thought i was gonna pass out afterwards so i layed on my hood to catch my breath almost until morning[&:]

i broke another one when i hit the semi.....threw the bearings all over the road and ripped one end right out of the spindle

i actually pushed the car almost all the way home.....i stopped just around the corner from my house because i had to push it up a slight incline so there was no way i could make it all the way to the house.....i was gonna call my wife..(gf at the time) and have her give me a ride home....but i thought that since it was only about 75 feet to my house that i could just walk it...but it ended up taking almost an hour to walk that far[&:]

You musta made a lot of rest stops or fell asleep on the sidewalk.

Other than noise, how would one know the condition of the CV? Get under the car, inspect the boot?
