I got the two boogers on the tranny itself, and when I try to put em on the shifter the bushings are being a real hassle and refuse to separate. I've tried using two screwdrivers to pop it out, but not particularly successful.

wouldnt be a good idea since the surrounding is hard plastic if i remember correctly.....
however you could use a torch to heat them up so that they are more pliable.....then try to pop them out
