special puller needed?
I was wondering if there is a special puller to get off the crankshaft timing gear for a 97 dohc? Last time i tried to get it off.. i tried all the pullers autozone had to offer and none of them would fit.. so i ended up having to chizzeling this thing off because it broke.. I thought there was a special puller at napa but i havent been able to find it.. Anyone had experience with this?

if you are talking about the crank pulley that the belts are on then this is what i have and it works awsome.....autozone rents them out......but if you have the money then i would get one.....
when you put the pulley back on then put some anti-sieze on it...then it will come right off next time

Maybe did you mean the camshaft timing gear? Incase you did, all you do is remove the bolt, make sure all pistons are either mid, to bottom stroke. Just to be safe, if the cams spins a bit.
Then get a screw driver and wedge it out. It basically just falls off.

i wasnt sure so i took a shot at it
in that case you need a 3 bolt steering wheel puller and some really thin/long bolts and a few washers....
are you changing the oil pump or removing the crank????
get the steering wheel puller.....
screw in the crank bolt a little bit and use it as the push point for the puller.....then as the gear is moving off just unscrew the bolt a little
