this is my idea. i have a 97 plymouth highline
I want the stock SRT 4 rims to put on my car but my car has drum brakes in the back and i think it would look retarted.
what im thinking is ffinding an old ride in the junk yard one with ABS cause i know they come with rear disk brakes and taking the rear end parts off of it
my questions are as follows:
would it mess with the brake balance at all?
what are all the pieces i would need, down to the last bolt?
how long would it take if i had all the parts and tools?
what would i need to get new?
would it even work?

 

it will work i just did one. take the hole tower. it should take most of the day if its rusted.

 

hole tower? im thinking you ment whole but what is this tower? Rusted bolts = bigger tools

 

Not all rear discs came with ABS, try to find ones w/o ABS. But anyway, the easiest way to do the rear disc swap is to unbolt the strut from the knuckle, disconnect the brake lines, and e-brake cables and pull it off. Below are some pics of what you need.

You don't need to swap your brake master cylinder either, that is a misconception. As you can see if just unbolt the knuckle from the strut, it makes the swap much easier.

quick question about the nut size
what are the nut sizes of the 2 nuts at the bottome of the strut and the one that attaches the strut to the mount?

Yes, its fairly simple.

They are metric and I don't remember the size, but I wanna say around 17 or 19mm.

it is actually even easier to just unbolt the whole setup from the strut and knuckle....leace the knuckle on the car....i only say this because sumtimes its hard to get the bottom control arm bolt off....

if you look as the bottom pic that das provided, you can see where the ebrake cable goes into the whole brake assembly.....well, below that you can see the ends of 4 bolts.......
when you take off the rotor or drum, you can see the heads of those 4 bolts.....just unbolt those and the whole assembly will come off of the car.....

when i put rear disc brakes on my wifes old neon, it took me about 30-45min. per wheel.......so it wasnt bad at all and is very easy once you get to looking at it
