Default General Questions.......

Was looking to pop out my tranny to do the RMS, it looks like I'll need an engine hoist to support the engine while the mounts are off. I see engine stands/hoists,but I don't see how they do anything other than hold the engine(not grab or support it in place). Do I need the crane type with the chain or will the regular stand w/4 bolt holes work? I see some on EBay for 8.99 plus 35$ shipping for the 1000 lbs. capacity.
Also, how much does the typical engine weigh(like a Neon as compared to a 4.3L V6) so I know what capacity is needed?

the engine stand is only good if you are gonna have the engine out and going through it....then you would mount it to the stand...

if you remove the tranny, the engine can be supported by a regular floor jack...
the floor jack can also be used to remove the tranny.....but i use a crain style hoist just because its alot easier...

a 4.3 will weigh almost twice as much as a neon engine

a full engine can be lifter by 2 people....depending on how strong you are of course

So probably 2 floor jacks needed(1 for tranny,1 for engine)? Will there be enough room underneath to do what's necessary?
So a neon engine's 200 lbs or so?
